Sustainable Progress

During the process of creating eco-printed textiles, I work by upcycling, incorporating reused and secondhand materials. Most of the time, I work outdoors to conserve resources compared to working in an indoor studio. Additionally, I print multiple textiles simultaneously to save energy.

When collecting leaves from a particular type of tree, I gather from a variety of trees to ensure that no single tree is overstressed.

I reuse adaptations for the prints several times, making the most of the materials and contributing to sustainability.

Natural Mordant

I'm using a self-made mordant composed of natural ingredients. There are no chemicals involved. Most eco-printers use aluminum sulfate as a mordant. I refrain from using it because it contains chemicals, which contradicts the eco-printing ethos. It took me much experimenting to acquire the mordant I currently use.

Because of this the recipe I secret.

Slow Fashion

Botanical Ink Design® is an approach to clothing production and consumption that focuses on quality, timelessness, and sustainability. Unlike Fast Fashion, which prioritizes rapid production and low prices, Slow Fashion values fair labor practices, eco-friendly materials, and longer garment lifespans.

By emphasizing craftsmanship and timeless designs, Slow Fashion aims to break the cycle of overconsumption and disposable mentality, promoting a more sustainable and mindful approach to fashion consumption.

Unique Pieces

Every garment printed with eco-printing carries the unique trace of nature within it. By using plant materials such as leaves, flowers, and bark, individual patterns and color variations emerge, making each piece one-of-a-kind. Just as each leaf of a tree has its own shape and structure, so does each eco-printed garment possess its own characteristic, formed through the natural printing process. This uniqueness renders each piece a special expression of the beauty and diversity of nature.

Eco-friendly textiles

I use eco-friendly textiles that are manufactured and distributed in the EU. I handle the ordering through a small company specializing in textiles from the EU. Mostly I use fabrics made out 100% cotton. Thereby I also use secondhand fabrics. To give old clothes a new life.
